The Music History of Vampires: From Renaissance Polyphony to Modern Lo-Fi

A vampire listening to music in the quiet of the night

For vampires, music is not merely a matter of taste but a sensory endeavor. To those with hearing much more acute than humans, every single note and faint inhalation is translated directly into raw emotion. Thus, the history of vampire music has always stood upon a fundamental question: "How shall one refine and manage excessive external stimuli?"

During the Medieval and Renaissance eras, vampires found solace in Polyphony. The serene and balanced harmonies of this period, which later became the foundation of classical music, provided a perfect backdrop for fully embracing the stillness of the night. As the Baroque era arrived, their sensibilities grew even more profound. The grand and intricate melodies of Bach’s ‘Toccata and Fugue in D minor’ deeply and intensely stirred the lonely inner worlds of those who had endured centuries. Since then, the advent of jazz and electronic music brought more freedom to the sounds of the night, yet a sense of balanced moderation remained at its core.

Now, the most beloved genre in vampire society is undoubtedly Lo-Fi. The dusty, crackling texture of a vinyl record, the white noise of faint raindrops against the window, and repetitive, simple chord progressions bring us peace of mind. Its appeal also lies in the low auditory fatigue, as high frequencies are kept in check.

At this very moment, somewhere in the city of night, a vampire is likely sitting by a window, playing quiet Lo-Fi. For them, this music is not a fleeting trend, but a brief respite for a personal ritual to protect themselves amidst a chaotic world.
