In this interview, we take a closer look at the “Fugitive Vampire” incident that sent shockwaves through vampire society.
We examine its wider impact, the state of mind of those who broke the taboo and chose to flee, and what may have happened after they were discovered by the Vampire Pursuit Unit. Together with Lars Huang, host of China’s Mystery Show, we trace the full story of the incident and its aftermath.

[Do you remember how much of a shock it was to vampire society when the fugitive vampire case first came to light?]
The shock back then was really huge. Since the taboo involving humans was an absolute law, when word came that a runaway vampire had tried to bite a human, many vampires just couldn't believe it.

Our show got a lot of tips and opinions about it too.
After that incident, as I recall the vampire community was in an uproar for a while.

[For months, this case had yielded no clues. But everything changed when the Vampire Pursuit Unit finally tracked them down. What do you think was the turning point that made this breakthrough possible?]
The decisive turning point, I think, was the tracker planted in the lover's neck.
According to the information we got when the Vampire Pursuit Unit first confronted them, they'd apparently already planted a tracker in the lover's neck.

They kept covering their tracks as they moved, but the moment they stopped somewhere just briefly, the Vampire Pursuit Unit caught the signal. Ironically, the brief period of happiness they shared together, ended up becoming their most dangerous moment.

[Why do you think the fugitive vampires ultimately chose to stay on the run? And do you see their choice, driven by love, as a foolish one—or as something that was simply meant to be?]
I think they just wanted to be together a little longer. Even knowing they'd be caught someday, it's not that they ran without knowing how it would end, they knew the outcome and still couldn't give up their love.

By society's standards, this is definitely the most dangerous, reckless choice.
But if you switch places with them and think of their wish to protect the one they love, I think their choice is understandable in some respects.

[Which emotion do you think was stronger during their time on the run—fear and anxiety, or happiness?]
The anxiety was probably strong but still, I hope they were happier because if it had been nothing but fear the whole time, they couldn't have endured living on the run for so long.

And if fear had won out they wouldn't have chosen to run in the first place.

I have a feeling that at least in the time with their partner they tried to focus more on that happiness.

[As the host of "Mystery Show", did you try to avoid becoming emotionally involved with this case? Or did you find yourself understanding them—or even empathizing with them?]
Honestly, a host is supposed to stay objective but as I went through the interviews, I found myself empathizing without even realizing it. Of course, I'm not trying to defend breaking the taboo.

It's just that when I think of how precious their feelings were, it's hard to talk about it like I can draw a hard line. Either way, I wish them happiness.

["Mystery Show" ended on an open note. Personally, what kind of ending did you hope they would have?]
For me, of course, the bigger wish was for them to be happy.
Because, during their escape, they went through so many trials and so much pain, no one could have predicted those life-or-death moments.

Anyway, in my heart, I hope they truly break free from the turmoil and pain in their lives ahead and get to keep writing their own romantic story in a better place.

[Do you see their time on the run as a failure? Or do you believe it was a blessing in its own way?]
Honestly, going by the outcome alone, some people would probably call it a failure.
But they did have their time together and they kept choosing each other to the very end.
In that sense, the happiness they shared was real too.

So I think maybe that time could be called a kind of "BLISS".
