An Era of Eye Styling… Colored Contacts, Now More Fashion Than Disguise

The days of wearing contact lenses solely to hide crimson eyes are long gone. For today’s young vampires, colored contacts are a fashion accessory chosen to complement makeup and outfits. While subdued browns are the default for daily wear, vibrant shades like blue and purple are the go-to choices for taking photos or attending concerts.

Axis-stabilized lenses are enjoying a massive surge in popularity. As distinct eye styling becomes a staple on idol stages and in photo shoots, more vampires in their teens and twenties are seeking similar styles. These lenses feature a heavy gradient that stays anchored beneath the pupil, or water-like patterns and glitter graphics that remain in a fixed position—solving the frustrating flaw of conventional designs where patterns would spin out of alignment with every blink.

This trend is a far cry from looking like a natural iris. Instead, it aims for large, shimmering eyes reminiscent of 2D characters in anime or video games. Young vampires boldly opt for vivid hues and daring patterns that are unmistakably contact lenses at first glance. It is quite a fascinating shift for vampires: eyes even more surreal than the red ones they once had to conceal are now all the rage.

However, exceeding the recommended wear time just for a single good photo should be avoided. Sharing used lenses with friends or handling them with unwashed hands is also an absolute no-no. No matter how captivating the design, it is best to remove them immediately if you feel any discomfort. After all, even if you live for centuries, you only get two eyes.

Color contacts have transformed from a tool to hide one's identity into an accessory to craft a desired aesthetic. This time, it’s not about passing as human—it’s about wearing eyes that don't exist in reality.
